How much does 13K m^2 of "solar sail" (mylar?) weight?

Regular film thin weighs 300 grams / m2 so it would be almost 4 metric tons ( 3 900 kg ).

Flying a month little closer to the sun would yield 186 000 km/h speed for it ( in addition to old speed ) in one month.

How does that sound ?

Here is a summary of the systems.

Merry Christmas !

I wonder if you could make chemical fuel out of oxygen and ammonium ( nitrate ) to run a rocket ? It would be available on the ship as it travels.

Well...after some recalculations..the Solar Eagle/Swan cannot go 1 500 000 km/t after a year....since it runs out of Xenon pretty quickly. I made an error in the amount of Xenon..it has to be 100 fold more...and thus cannot reach the acceleration.

Silly me !

We have to switch the solar sails to be outa mylar...and it uses the solar wind to sail ( 750 km/s at best ). We can put the craft into rotational movement and get rid of the ring. There is not enough xenon to push it to mio speeds.

Solar wind can be counted; http://ccar.colorado.edu/asen5050/proje ... lton_proj/

Here is the description of this vehicle.

Some have suspected the solar wind effect closer to the Sun..so I added the solar sail area and we are also 77 million km closer to te sun when the Swan exposes the solar sails to the sun..so there should be more thrust from the sun than here on earth bound system.

Also the sails could be used as mirrors to reflect sunshine into the greeneries to provide oxygen and food for the crew ( r&r too ). I think you may have to leave the ship to Jupiter orbit and use the pod to escape from the planet Jupiter gravitational pull in return trip.

This is a really rough estimate from a self made "rocket engineer" !

Jubilant new year 2015 everyone !

Solar winds speed up to 900 km/s that is over 3 million km/h.

I made tuning on this whole day today.

6120 m2 solar panels ( yield 2500 + kW ).
20702 m2 solar wind sails ( and plane surface ).
100 passengers to Mars ( Moon too ) and back.
800 passengers on earth bound traffic.
Greenery is now 670 m2 ( 2500 m3 ).
Contraprop on the rear fuselage with 10 blades on each ( 7 m blades ) and 22 metre dia..giving Mach 8 at only 1680 rpms and Mach 1 at 280 rpm !!!

50 metric tons of LOX and hydrogen....will last longer as the craft can fly to 70 km on solar alone.

Props are installed Edson Fessenden Gallaudet style...around the fuselage.

Empty weight 120-140 000 kg...and Mtow 230 000 - 250 000 kg. Span still 180 m.

...and it is double dekker now.

Wing tips resemble now the Eagles wing tips.

http://people.eku.edu/ritchisong/554notes3.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_feather

Remember the fuselage is only 6 m wide...and thus the flat area is wing and these doppel dekker wings are actually just wing tips.

Slight correction here 30 times more sails.

Ok fellows...we counted that a 65 tonne craft with 130 000 tons of fuel after the dash with solar + accus to 85 km at high mach ( 6-8 ) will take this kite to LEO !

Awesome !

Numbers for the fuel and empty weight are still not correct in the pic/drawing. Will be shortly.

I still have to prove that man can fly supersonic above 50 000 meters with a prop plane.

7.4 km/s is enough for LEO of the delta-v.

Here !

Of course the needed 2.3 km/s with solar/accu power still needs to be proven.

Plane can actually fly in MARS atmosphere..since it is equivalent of 35 000 meters altitude in Earth atmosphere !

Folks !

Hi...some adjustments for the prop and engines.

Anyone wanna fund this project for Mars and Europa trips ?

PM if you have an extra cash lying a round...I am myself sorta outa change right now.

:)

I also rendered a speedster that can be used on Europa ice to chase the alien under the ice.

Check this out !

Hot as the SS 1 in 65 km doing Mach 3.09, but in 80 km doing M8 !
