Lost in Space — Save NASA from Doing Too Much: The Editors of Scientific American (July, 2005, Perspectives) think the number of shuttle flights should be slashed to six or seven, so budget can be freed up for new or at least other heavy lift and crew transport spaceships, sooner rather than later. They cite a 2004 study commissioned by the Planetary Society that advocated exactly this strategy, and urge one of the leaders of the study team, Mike Griffin, the current NASA Adminstrator, to put the plan into effect.
