Rocketplane Limited, Inc. to Present at FAA Conference

– Rocketplane Limited, Inc. will make a presentation as part of the “X Prize and Beyond” panel at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Space Transportation Conference entitled “Ready for the Next Giant Leap” on Feb. 10, 2005 in Washington D.C. Chuck Lauer, Rocketplane co-founder and Director of Business Development, will be discussing “The O Prize: A Case Study.”

“With the success of the ANSARI X PRIZE and the exciting new space prizes coming up, such as the Bigelow America’s Space Prize, the X Prize Cup and the NASA Centennial Challenges prizes, it is an honor to be included in this panel for the FAA AST conference,” Lauer said. “I look forward to being able to describe some of the inside details of another less well known commercially oriented space prize: the $12.5 million ‘O Prize’ Rocketplane won at the end of 2003.”

Lauer will discuss the origins of the Oklahoma Space Industry Development Agency (OSIDA), the Oklahoma Spaceport, and the SB-55 Investment Tax Credit bill passed in Oklahoma in 2001 by Sen. Gilmer Capps, D-Snyder; Rep. James Covey, D-Custer City; and Rep. Jack Bonny, D-Burns Flat. He will also speak about the three-year effort after the original bill passed to successfully certify Rocketplane Limited as a Qualified Space Transportation Vehicle Provider.

The conference will be held from Feb. 9 – 11 at the Renaissance Washington Hotel in Washington, D.C. Topics will cover the challenges that will be facing the commercial space transportation industry in the coming years, such as regulatory issues and challenges; new technologies to reduce the cost of launch operations; emerging new markets, especially space tourism; new vehicle designs; and new spaceport locations.

Rocketplane Limited, Inc. is an Oklahoma corporation striving to make space travel as safe, convenient, and commonplace as air travel. Rocketplane will design and build state-of-the-art reusable spaceplanes, provide unparalleled human training and spaceflight experiences, and transport innovative scientific experiments and valuable payloads to sub-orbital space and beyond.
