  • Norwegian Chocolate Company Launches Space Ride Sweepstakes

Nidar, a premier Norwegian confectioner, announced today the Space Ride sweepstakes. The grand prize will be a suborbital spaceflight from Space Adventures, Ltd., the world’s leading space experiences company. The winner of the spaceflight, to be announced after a 21-week competition, will make history onboard the first Norwegian flight to space.

The promotion will begin on April 1 with the winner to be announced this September. Nidar’s candy bars, Stratos and Crispo, will appear in new packaging that will contain a unique code. Participants should submit the code and answer the space-related questions at www.spaceride.no, or register in weekly on-air competitions to be broadcasted on the Kanal 24 radio.

Space Adventures’ suborbital program consists of a detailed four-day flight preparation and training. This highly focused and inspiring pre-flight experience will familiarize each passenger with the flight program, critical vehicle systems, flight operations, zero-gravity conditions, in-flight accelerations and space flight safety procedures. On launch day, flight specialists will assist the passengers in suiting up and guiding each through the final checklist. Each flight will be directed by both a skilled-pilot and a precise computer controlled system. As each vehicle reaches their maximum altitude, the rocket engines will shutdown and the passengers will experience up to five minutes of continuous weightlessness, all the while gazing at the vast blackness of space set against the blue horizon of the Earth below.

Space Adventures Donates Zero-Gravity Flight for MTV Charity Auction

In support of MTV Networks, Space Adventures, Ltd., the world’s leading space experiences company, has donated a seat on a U.S. Zero-Gravity flight for the MTV Tsunami Relief Charity Auction to benefit UNICEF. Donations received from the auction will help provide humanitarian relief in the form of water supplies, emergency health kits, tarpaulins and tents, school supplies and more.

“At Space Adventures, we are committed in the effort to provide essential necessities to those ravaged by the disaster,” said Eric Anderson, president and CEO of Space Adventures. “We commend MTV for organizing this tremendous effort as part of their ongoing relief activities.” The Sumatra earthquake that touched off a series of tsunamis, killed tens of thousands of people and left hundreds of thousands of children and their families in serious jeopardy.

The online auction will run until February 20th. The person who bids the highest for the U.S. Zero-G flight will participate in a day-long astronaut training program. He or she will be instructed by a veteran NASA astronaut and accompanied by experienced professionals who will provide pre-flight training on weightlessness and who will assist with flips, twists and Superman-like flying during the 15 parabolas that will occur aboard G-Force One, a modified 727-200 jet.

MTV Networks owns and operates the cable television programming services MTV: Music Television, MTV2, mtvU, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, TV Land, VH1, CMT: Country Music Television, and Spike TV, as well as The Digital Suite from MTV Networks, a package of thirteen digital services, all of which are trademarks of MTV Networks.
