Louise Riofrio comes to the show to discuss her positive pressure spacesuit and cosmology theories. LOUISE RIOFRIO as an undergraduate predicted that the speed of light is slowing and came up with the “GM=tc^3″ theory, which may solve the dark energy problem. More recent research has found evidence of Black Holes in unexpected places, even inside the Earth. In the everyday world, Riofrio’s design suggestions have been adopted by NASA for the next-generation Constellation Spacesuit. She is a full-time researcher in cosmology. Dr. Gregory Berns returns to discuss his new book, “iconoclast” and much more. Dr. Gregory Berns is the Distinguished Chair of Neuroeconomics at Emory University, where he is a professor in the departments of Psychiatry and Economics, and at the Goizueta Business School. He is widely known for his ability to translate technical material for a broad audience. A pioneer in the field of neuroeconomics, he and his research have been profiled in the New York Times, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, Money, and other leading news, business, and science sources.
3. Friday, October 31, 2008, 9:30-11:30 AM PDT (16:30-18:30 GMT)
Brian Hanley returns to talk on the subject of bioterrorism as we go off the space topic for this important discussion. Brian Hanley has contributed chapters to two books on terrorism coordinated by the West Point terrorism center, writing on the subjects of biological warfare response and understanding methods and motives. For 5 years he ran an office in Tbilisi, in the Republic of Georgia, observing directly developments there. Mr. Hanley also has scientific publications in epidemiological modeling and assay instrumentation. Currently, he is in a PhD program in microbiology at UC Davis, and lectures for the MBA program at Santa Clara University on a variety of topics related to biological and international business matters. He holds multiple patents, with others in process. He brings to the table a broad background of experience and training helpful for understanding what we call terrorism.
4. Sunday, November 2, 2008, 12-1:30 PM PDT (19-20:30 GMT)
Dr. Sam Dinkin is an auction expert at Full Spectrum Auctions. He designs and implementation of high stakes auctions. Dr. Dinkin has designed and conducted auctions for over $150 billion in electricity and spectrum. He was Auctioneer or advised on auctions this year that priced all electric power generation capacity in Colombia, Spain, New Jersey and New England. He received his B.S. in economics from Caltech and his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Arizona studying under 2002 Nobel winner, Vernon Smith. Dr. Dinkin also been a volunteer journalist for The Space Review, founded the startup Space Shot and is the sponsor of the Space Frontier Foundation Space Journalism prize.
