The X Prize Cup could happen in September, according to William Gaubatz, executive vice president of the X Prize Foundation.

He said it will be an opportunity for New Mexico and the nation to move forward and open the boundaries of space transportation to everyone.

The state and the X Prize Foundation recently reached a deal that allows New Mexico to host the competition.

Gaubatz said the X Prize Cup will be an annual event that will be staged in 2006 at White Sands Missile Range before moving permanently in 2007 to the Southwest Regional Spaceport.
