First off, Team LunaTrex would like to thank Google and the X-Prize Foundation for putting on such a great event and press conference at Google Headquarters in Mountain View yesterday, Feb. 21.

Our team had a great time at the event, and we met a lot of great people.

We were all struck by the spirit of unity shared among the various teams. It seems we all have a lot in common, and I look forward to watching the other teams grow as we do, along their various paths.

The event was widely covered, and we felt it was very worthwhile from a publicity perspective that we attended.

Team LunaTrex is planning on making some serious steps forward in 2008 in its pursuit of the GLXP:

1) We intend to launch a Lunar Rover competition, sometime in the summer or as the school year begins in the fall. There will be several elements to the competition, including designing a rover concept, drawings or rover art, and naming the rover we send. Cash and scholarship prizes will be awarded at the various levels of the competition. Though we have some rover ideas in the works, we believe the youthful and unfettered innovation from young people could add greatly to the effort we make, and will offer a great interactive way for our team to reach out to the global community.

2) We intend on selecting a launch profile and provider this year, and placing down payments and setting launch windows as well.

3) LunaTrex will complete its core team personnel selections by year-end. We already have a great core, but we want to make sure the gaps we find are filled with the best of the best.

4) We will acquire facilities in Indiana and Alabama this year, and begin acquiring needed equipment.

5) Though we already have the needed seed money to start things per our schedule, we will seek sponsors and other funding throughout the year, for ongoing operations.

We will keep the blog posted as we make significant progress along all these fronts. Feel free to keep tabs on our website (which is still very much under construction, but is functional) at http://LunaTrex.com

Clear skies,

Pete Bitar

Team Leader
