FORKS, WASH. – Wreckage from a private rocket that exploded after takeoff is up for sale, with proceeds going to finance the owner’s next launch.
Space Transport’s Phillip Storm and Eric Meier have put the remains of the Rubicon 1 up for online auction at eBay.
The twisted rubble of its space capsule and nosecone are available for a minimum bid of $500.
Rubicon 1 crashed Sunday about 200 feet from takeoff after its engine failed and its parachute failed to deploy.
The two aerospace engineers had hoped to reach supersonic speeds and an altitude of 20,000 feet for a chance at a $10 million X-Prize.
The two say if they can raise the money for a new rocket they will try again next month.
