Two key members of Tier One are taking time out of their schedule to appear at an air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin later this week. Burt Rutan’s company, Scaled Composites, is responsible for the X Prize contender SpaceShipOne. Mike Melvill piloted the craft to its historic suborbital flight last month. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, both will be appearing at AirVenture, an annual fly-in at Whittman Regional Airport.
Rutan is no stranger to AirVenture. He brought Voyager to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s show in the 1980’s. While he won’t be bringing SpaceShipOne along this time, he and Melvill are scheduled to speak about the the project. According to Tom Poberezny, EAA’s president, this will be Rutan’s “first public appearance in a place where they’ll be interacting with the public at large since SpaceShipOne flew.”
