UK company DMC International Imaging Ltd (DMCii) has won a European Space Agency contract to provide satellite imagery of 38 European countries.

Scientists will use the imagery to monitor Europe’s environment and land use, including for farming and forestry. The images will also be valuable for the Global Monitoring for Environment & Security programme.

DMCii coordinates the Disaster Monitoring Constellation – four satellites carrying the same sensors. This means locations can be visited more often giving researchers a fuller picture of what is happening.

DMCii Director of sales and marketing Paul Stephens said: “This campaign demonstrates the value of constellations for imaging large areas in a short time.

“With several new DMC satellites launching in 2008 and 2009 we plan to start providing multi-season imaging services in Europe and elsewhere to meet the operational needs of GMES services.”
