(NASA) – The doors leading to the final U.S. components of the International Space Station were opened at 9:17 p.m. EST. The crews of space shuttle Endeavour and the station entered Tranquility and began internal outfitting of the module and the cupola.

While Pilot Terry Virts and Mission Specialist Kathryn Hire took the controls of the space station’s robotic arm for a walkoff from its base on the Harmony module to the Destiny laboratory, Mission Specialist Stephen Robinson and station Commander Jeff Williams began outfitting the vestibule between Tranquility and the Unity node.

While internal outfitting proceeds Virts and Flight Engineer Soichi Noguchi will move components of the Advanced Resistive Exercise Device and the Air Revitalization System rack into the new node.

Spacewalkers Robert Behnken and Nicholas Patrick are preparing a new spacesuit for Patrick to use during the second spacewalk scheduled to begin Saturday at 9:09 p.m. It was discovered that his original suit had a temporary slight decrease in the speed in its cooling fan during the first spacewalk.

Behnken and Patrick will take a break at 2:29 a.m. Saturday to answer questions about the mission that have been gathered by astronaut and spacecraft communicator Mike Massimino on his Twitter account.
