Today, Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman that flew in space in 1963, celebrates her 70th birthday. She was born in 1937 in Maslennikovo.

She flew into space in a Vostok capsule. It was a remarkable flight as in the same time Cosmonaut Bykovsky was also in space. She orbited the Earth for nearly 3 days.

She was long time the only woman with that privilege. The next to fly was nearly 20 years later Female Cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya in 1982.
