A “very entertaining … and pretty darn cool” supersonic flight to the edge of space and the presentation of four annual awards were the highlights of the Naval Test Wing Atlantic luncheon during the intermission of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School’s yearly reunion and symposium here Friday.
The four awards, the most prestigious within NTWL, were handed out this year by Capt. Tom Phelan, NTWL commander, and his new boss, incoming NAWCAD Commander Capt. Jeffrey Wieringa, a rear admiral select. The awards are given to the outstanding test pilot of the year, outstanding Naval flight officer of the year, outstanding test engineer of the year, and Test Pilot School instructor pilot of the year.
