An anomaly has been detected in the ground station network for the satellite GIOVE-A during preparations for launch. The necessary re-configuration and validation are currently predicted to lead to a delay of at least two days for this launch, originally scheduled to take place on 26 December.

GIOVE-A is the first member of Galileo satellite family to be launched in space.

The complete constellation of 30 satellites, specifically designed for civil use, will eventually offer European citizens and institutional users state-of-the-art global positioning and timing services with outstanding accuracy, availability, integrity and a guaranteed signal. Galileo is a joint initiative being taken by the European Commission and ESA.
