Has anyone heard anything from them lately? Are they even doing the minimal testing they claimed they would before there "launch" date?

I guess this poll is already out of date based on 109Ace's post that they can't launch due to lack of insurance.

They are looking for an insurance but didn't only close it yet because of money and price.
An there's time left till the date of launch. Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |

Out of curiosity, where does the money come from that backs GoldenPalace? The reason I ask is a few weeks back my computer at work was hit by "Spyware" from a company called GoldenPalace. I've used Spybot Search and Destroy but it doesn't remove it. Now I get all sorts of popup ads. I've managed to keep it under control somewhat.
Its a bit of a sore point for me. These internet advertisers really suck, and do their advertisers a disservice. I've specifically decided never to purchase a product from any company that pops up on my screen (when my computer is not on the internet even). These include Earthlink, Weight Watchers etc..... Don't these companies know how maddening this spyware is, and the havoc it wrecks? These are legit companies that are behaving like spammers. In fact its worse than spam. So if GoldenPalace is backed with internet advertising money then I wish them all the worst. If not, then good luck. I'd like to visit their website, but am afraid if I do I might get infected with a pop up bot. |

I'm almost positive now that this Golden Palace is the same as the scumsuckers that send out spyware and pop up ads. Here are two quick links:
Cannot remove Golden Palace Casino: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread12169.html Golden Palace Casino To Sponsor X-Prize http://www.space-talk.com/ForumE/showth ... eadid=2628 In the first place, the fact that a sponsor is called Golden Palace, and a major Spyware happen to both have the same name was odd. Then I started searching and found a number of links that kept referring to a spyware by a casino called Golden Palace. And it just so happens that the financiers for this x-prize entry are also a casino? Come on. So unless someone can prove to me otherwise, I'm concluding these are one and the same. These guys are the lowest scumbags on the planet. I would love to rant and rave about how dare they install programs on other people's computers without their permission and such but I'll just leave it as is. You may not know how big an issue this is, but in the corporate world it is causing major problems in taking up CPU and time. Some people's computers grind to a halt. I know a neighbor who knows nothing about computers who was wondering why since he had DSL his connection was so slow. The reason? Because once I installed a few programs it turned out he had like 600 of these spywares, and popup ads just sucking dry his computer. |

Stimulated by what you wrote I had a look myself and it looks like you are correct. skyhigh wrote: So unless someone can prove to me otherwise, I'm concluding these are one and the same. I don't know about them being the lowest scumbags, but they're down there somewhere it seems. I did find a site which suggested a fairly simple means to remove it. http://www.spyany.com/program/article_adw_rm_Jraun.html Alternatively, Spybot is supposed to be quite a good freeware program useful for removing unwanted spyware. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ However ... as always be responsible, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH BEFORE ACTING ON OTHER PEOPLE'S RECOMMENDATIONS. Good luck, DKH. _________________ Per aspera ad astra |

Yeah, I suppose there are worse people. Still, these guys that infect computers with their programs are pretty low.
Still, having thought about it more, I don't hold the team responsible. This is the DaVinci project right? So I hope the best for these astronauts and the engineers and team players trying to pull it off. I just won't think well of the financiers behind the project. |

For any who missed it, GP is in the news again. It seems as if their 500K into DVP is not getting much publicity these days, so they sank 24K into a partially eaten grilled cheese sandwich:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4034787.stm So, DVP got 17.86 partially eaten sandwiches to fly to the carmen line. -Ben PS I really do want DVP to be successful with their unmanned flight this december, I just wish the cheese sandwiches safety. |
