SpaceShipOne has proven ground launch is a dinosaur as well as demonstrating no one needs overengineered overcomplicated crap like those ballistic missile derviatives many of the other teams have been fooling around with.

Sorry how much did SS1 cost to develop?
Fly-back spacecraft are great but certainly not simple, and so far have not been proven scaleable.
Why do you think ground launch technology was developed for missiles?
Do your math

Why do I think ground launch technology was developed for missiles? To fight wars, because you don't give a damn about cost.

Ground launch forces a vehicle to accelerate from a dead start to supersonic speed in the thickest part of the atmosphere. NASA's own studies showed air launching the shuttle at 30,000 feet while going 400 knots would cut solid booster burn time to one minute, eliminating one million pounds of propellant.

Yeah? How is, for example, the Armadillo Aerospace vehicle simple compared to SpaceShipOne?

Not a very good one,

How much has Armadillo spent on development?
Oh
And by the way, you may want to inform the Russians that you think they are way of base with their space program.

Somthing else, usualy in war it is all about cost and speed and the ability to maximize performance.

It's disappointing to see that this forum seems just as preoccupied with squabbling between its users at the expense of the topic as nearly every other forum I've visited in the last decade. I guess I'm foolish for always hoping to find better, especially when it involves a topic (like the X Prize) that should inspire more creative exchanges.

Oh well. Just can't win sometimes.

Agreed, this is getting ridiculous! This forum never used to have such pointless incessant fighting over petty issues... Very disappointing indeed, hopefully this can be corrected with time and elimination of those causing the problems.

Please be warned, there are moderators and admins with the power to delete and permanently ban those causing these new problems... so don't let it get too out of hand.

I think it's time to also lock down this topic...
