Quote: Well, TerraMrs did challenge us to post more often. Includes this flooding the message board ? Maybe a x-prize chat box would be great Then we could talk directly to each other; challanging to post more :p Or ask stupid questions you don't want to have public saved Sigurd http://hhboard12.free.fr/Sigurd/index.html |

There's a lot of good talk going on at many many sites and blogs. Unfortunately you have to vist a dozen of them to piece together a good picture. Couple that with the slowness that this site has in updating the news. The X-prize wants to position itself as a sort of 21st Century NASCAR. Well, NASCAR races have commentary from the broadcast booth. While the secrecy of each team's progress can be understood, I'd hope that some of the intellect that makes up the X-prize committee could be pusuaded to publish an article a week to discuss various aspects of the competition. What this site needs is Content! Then we can all post our comments on the weekly commentary.

From what I've heard, the X-Prize webmaster has been flooded with work lately. Maybe the solution is for us forum members to work together ourselves.
Maybe we could each follow the exploits of one team, and then post the results either on a special X-Prize web page or on this forum. That would provide food for thought. The only problem is that we wouldn't have the special inside knowledge that the X-Prize staff has, but that's pretty minor. What do you think? |

@The Legionnaire, btw you got back first position on the members list :p The Legionnaire wrote: From what I've heard, the X-Prize webmaster has been flooded with work lately. Your idea sounds like a dream, same as the x-prize, let's join to make it reality Quote: and then post the results either on a special X-Prize web page or on this forum. I'm a game programmer, and also made several interactive websites before (SQL, PHP, ASP, ...) I have acces to artists who can help without problem when I just ask them... so if needed I can always make a website, where every person who wants gets his acces rights to write his own stories, so making a X-prize news site... (I think; Opinions etc should stay on this forum) As you said "or on this forum", the problem sides of making an own website is: -> Need acces to an SQL Database with plenty of storage -> Webspace server with PHP support... or (ASP, ...) Personally I'm currently using free.fr for my peronal site, but the SQL server over there crashes each few minutes... that's also why my own forum is offline too often http://hhboard12.free.fr/Sigurd/index.html (see forum page). I was one of the 3 developers of http://www.TrueVision3D.com, created also their website before I left (currently it has been changed to a phpnuke, also very good) but especially their hosting company is great http://www.ezoshosting.com Cheap, Many features and most important, good support and already tested that it isn't a bogus hosting company. An other good on is http://www.crystaltech.com/ Maybe we could arrange something to collect monney, or let the X-prize org. help with it or even better, get acces to a part of the x-prize webspace... (or any other webspace...) All ideas are welcome... I hope some other people will join to succeed with this idea. This song may help to get some feeling to do also something! http://www.xprize.com/music/042402_xprizesong.mp3 It isn't a dam good quality song, but I was happy they atleast had one If someone has MSN Messenger, people can contact me on the address *** [removed, don't want spammers to find it] Sigurd http://hhboard12.free.fr/Sigurd/index.html Last edited by Sigurd on Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:55 am, edited 1 time in total. |

I believe the success of the Xprize's initial competition, it's publicity and accessability to the general public will be important for the future prospects of the Xprize foundation. It is therefore a win win, for the Xprize to use a small bit of it's expertize to help inform the public of the competition, it's status, and how you could possibly handicap the competitors. A quick review of the Advisory Committee & Board of Trustees exhibits a wealth of talent and knowledge. This should be tapped to provide commentary and insight into the current state of the competition.
