I'm taking my vacation this year to Vegas. Then driving into Mohave for the flight. I'm flying a friend of mine out from another city to join me in witnessing history. He'll have great tales to tell his kids... and the pics and vids to show to his future grandchildren.

Thanks for the welcome. Did I read correctly that you're attending Ga Tech? Is the 87 in your handle the year you were born? I was in my 4th year of engineering at U. of Cincinnati in '87. Ga Tech is a great engineering school. I am giving serious consideration to going back to school several years from now, and Ga Tech is definitely one of my picks for a program in Aerospace. My BS is in Mechanical Engineering. Been an ME in design for the last 15 yrs, but it's gotten a little old. I'd be interested in your feedback about Ga Tech if you make it thru the next few years. Usually, 1/2 the incoming class is gone within 3 yrs. I wish u much luck and success.

P.S. - I've already put my resume into Scaled for any future work they may have that would require my services :)

Guess what? I got the day off from work so now I can go to the launch.

But I ain't going to the flight on the 29th I goin' to the Oct. 13th - the one were they win the big prize (sure hope nothing goes wrong on 9-29)

Anyway, I'm going to take both digital's wit me (camera and 'corder) so I will have many pictures to show those who didnt get to go and live on the East coast and then I can flaunt it in their faces and say "ha ha, I live only a few from the worlds first private spaceport" and so on and so forth.

ok. I'll be quiet now.....

Heard on xprizenews.org that Scaled will attempt the second flight on the anniversary of Sputnik, which would be October 4.

i remember them saying they'd try for 3 in the two weeks, so in that case oct. 4 would be the prize and oct. 13 would be for show.

if they win the prize on October 4, do you think they'll go again on the 13th?

According to the SpaceDev press release, they've shipped *three* SS1 rocket motor casings to Mojave, so they've got the means to do it, at least :)

I'm going! I'm going! *doing a little dance*
My husband took time off work and we're bringing our four little kids out there (don't worry, they're not the loud, whiney kind that drive everyone crazy, they travel with us a lot and have learned to act decently). We love airplanes and space stuffs.
We are so excited that we get to be out there to witness this event. My dad was a pilot in WWII. My hubby's dad is still a pilot. We have some friends who are test pilots here in our area. Our sons want to be pilots. It's like we have had a taste of flight from previous generations and now we get to see the first glimpse of the sunrise of what the day of flight will be during our childrens' generation. Wouldn't miss this for the world!
We have a preferred parking pass. The site says that the gates open at 3a.m. on the 29th. I'm wondering if that is the case for the preferred parking as well? Or if, perhaps, we might get to go in earlier and sleep there for a while then wake up and walk to the runway to watch the launch. Anyone know any details on this?
Oh! And for those coming in from other areas, Mojave is a little tiny town with few places to stay (as I've seen some of you have already found out  ). Lancaster and Palmdale are about 30 minutes from Mojave and offer a lot of comfort for travelers. The freeway that runs from the Los Angeles area to Mojave runs right through Palmdale and Lancaster. So, anyways, just thought I'd throw that out at ya for something to consider.
