How fast equals how high, correct?
We're limited by several factors on how high. A) the lift capacity of the shuttle system. Don't get me wrong on this, the shuttle is amazing technology, and the engineering to make the shuttle move is a miracle. Especially in the past three years. I bet there's still plenty of classified stuff associated with the shuttle system. And, the next politician that uses the shuttle as the butt of tom foolishness should be horse wipped! They are being derespectful of the the folks that built the shuttle; flew the shuttle; have flown the shuttle, and paid the price for their dedication; and to the folks that still want to fly the shuttle. All that chemical reaction being wasted on low earth orbit while the money is in geosync orbits, unless your counting all the spy trade in low earth orbit and short lived birds. (Sorry, that's a nother reason we're being limited.) Then who ordered the shuttle's specs altered in the first place? Let's blame them for the current problems in space! |

Homer Hickman' op-ed piece details why the specifications for the shuttle were wrong from the start.
http://www.spacedaily.com/news/oped-03zzd.html Excellent reading for those who care about real safety and progress in space. And yes! Never forget those 14 brave souls who sacrificed their lives for human space exploration. |
