RyanXPC, you probably know the answer to this, but does the X-Prize foundation do summer internships for either high-school or college students who are interested in it and competent (for education level) at something relevant? i'm a rising hs junior and it'd be great to be able to work (or volunteer) for the x-prize some summer in the next few years.

I don't know about internships, but you might want to contact the X PRIZE volunteer coordinator Loretta Hidalgo at loretta@xprize.org.

Most of the X PRIZE staff live in California, but I don't, and I can still get a lot of volunteer work done. It depends on what sort of job you want: most of what I do is just writing - writing newsletters, news blurbs, etc. |

I would take anything, just to get me involved. I could do the writing, I come from a very writing oriented background. I was also the head editor at my school newspaper for three years in a row. Something like that would be great.

I was thinking about volunteering for the next flight of SS1 as flight test engineer. A second person on board would not hurt the flight, they need to show they can carry three people anyway.

Hehe, good luck with that one, I'm sure there are thousands of people that would love to be their next flight test engineer. But why not go for it? Power to ya!

just so everyone knows, i'm back now. by that question, i didn't really mean so much just volunteer work-- we can do that on xprizenews easily enough, and i'm afraid i don't know enough to do much more remotely than work on a website and/or write stuff. i live in virginia, but i can't think of a much better use for my summer than to fly out to new mexico or st. louis and work on the xprize cup or something. i remember Ryan said he'd first got involved with x-prize in an internship, and he created the x-cup idea. it'd be awesome if some of the rest of us can get involved like that, though obviously not to the same degree in all likelyhood.

I'm sure not too many young people would match my background in engineering and flight test. Imagine the headlines:"First college student in space.Youngest person in space..." Ok I'm getting a little caried away here ![]() _________________ Thank you very much Mister Roboto For helping escape when I needed most Thank you Thank you |

lol, hey, it's certainly possible. if government funding weren't prohibited, i'd bet there would be a bunch of colleges fielding teams for x-prize contention. come to think of it, i'm suprised some private colleges don't have teams, like embry riddle.

Yea, Me too. I live in Princeton, NJ but would gladly fly anywhere in the world to do relevant x-prize work. Whoever mentioned college level competitions of the same caliber - I would just wait 10 years and there has got to be such a thing. Already I hear about so many competitions involving car development. The x-prize is the next step - but a more costly and dangerous step. I assume colleges would be wary of risking student's lives and being involved in a costly law suit. One idea would be for the time being to make unmanned rockets and put dummies inside. All the Best!
