"Gateshipone"

Did anyone see the premier of "Stargate, Atlantis"?

Two of the characters are in a spaceship they found, and one wants to name it "gateshipone" the other asks to be reminded not to let the first guy name anything, ever.

Spaceshipone has been heard of....

The ship ended up being named "puddlejumper"

Puddle Jumper was more appropriate.

Looks to be a promising spinoff.

Alas, if only we had discovered such a thing as the Stargate.....

I'd be more than happy to dial in a random location and jump through with a basic survival kit.

I don't have cable so I wont be able to see it for, oh, say a couple of years!!! (standard uk tv is not good at keeping up with "foreign" shows)

So far I think series 6 of SG only ended in spring!

I did read the website and the concept seems interesting. I wonder as humans explore space, what interesting surprises might be in store and if any sci-fi series get anything right . I wouldn't want to meet an angry Gould though

Actually I hear the star gate creators' (makers of the movie I guess) were sucessfully sued by someone who had written a book claiming there really was a stargate...

Bah. The only reason those guys are worried about 'em is because (with all their miraculously advanced technology) they've forgotten about such effective weaponry as the good ol' Maxson Mount: 4 .50-cal Browning M2 heavy machine guns (touted as one of the most effective and most reliable machine guns ever produced) mounted on an electrically controlled turret that itself is placed on top of an armored halftrack. 2000rpm, 360°x180° fire coverage. Originally designed as a mobile anti-aircraft weapon, the gunnery crews soon realized that it turned enemy infantry into hamburger, especially when hollowpoint or explosive shells were used. An invention of the Second World War, it continued in service into Vietnam, and was finally replaced by the M-16 automatic rifle, the M-60 light machine gun, and the "Minigun", a .30-cal gatling-type extremely-rapid-fire heavy machine gun.

And to think that the Stargate crews use no Human weapons bigger than a peculiarly ugly light machine pistol.

Texan: people have claimed anything and everything -- remember Lowell's Martian canals. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that if there really had been a Stargate, we'd've heard something about it by now.

It is true that they usually just take light weapons, but the sg teams have also has used rockett launchers and predator drones in addition to captured gould technolgy

In one noteworthy episode they launched laser guided Maverick missiles to home on targets designated by a UAV they sent through first.

Still, I keep wondering why they haven't developed a 'Gate Tank' or similar vehicle.
