You're going to need it, that EDL sequence is utterly insane. But your mums and dads at the JPL have taught you well, and all you can do now is to give it your very best shot. 16 hours remaining. Good luck!

Good luck from me as well (will be watching "live"!), although I don't think the EDL sequence is *that* insane.

Ok, steering during entry/aerobraking is a first for Mars, but not that new.
Skycrane is "nuts" at first glance, but if you think about the things involved it isn't really more dangerous/complicated than a powered descent all the way to the surface (Vikings, Phoenix).

Given 'current' (think a few years back because such missions take that long to design/build/launch) technology, there pretty much is no other way to land such a heavy payload. :)

I would cross my fingers, but I am not a christian . . .
I remember going with my father to see the pathfinder missions' first pictures broadcast. It was cool - they had 3d goggles. This mission will, I imagine, have better quality pictures.

And you were right! Well done to the JPL for making it all work! I just missed the big moment, as NASA TV dropped their WMV and QuickTime streams and it took me a while to get the Flash-only stream running without Flash. Then again, everyone on Earth missed the big moment by about 15 minutes, so oh well. It's down!

You didn't miss much. It went flawlessly and the control room broke out into a pandemonium of hugs and high fives.

Lets hope the Martians have not evolved into a civilisation of social Nanites with high tech friends
