Commercial space flights to generate more than $600 million

Commercial suborbital space flights should bring in between $600 million and $1.6 billion in revenue in their first decade of operations, according to a study commissioned by the US.

Tourism drives about 80 per cent of the demand for suborbital flights, which reach about 63 miles above the planet's surface before plunging back through the atmosphere.

Of course they have been saying that for decades...

....and it's been true for decades we just didn't have the means to do it. I don't remember the exact numbers but I read a survey three years ago that at $200,000 for orbit several thousand people said they would pay the price to go to space. At those numbers the capital flowing through the orbital bussiness sector would easily be in the high millions. So the consumer base is there we just need to find a way to fill the need. With Burt Rutan working on a monster plane to carry one of space-x's ships to a ten mile alt. I'd say were closer to $200,000 a seat than most people would believe.
