Well, it seems what you are looking for is a space news reporting service - not just news about what is happening in the space community, but news about the structure of it - who is joining, how well they are doing, what they are working on, at any given time. There is something like this in the military world - Jane's information group. They track the status of militaries and military products around the world, and issue regular reports. There are regular reports on air forces, fighting aircraft, navies, and navy ships, weapons, armies, and all that sort of stuff.

Check out the world clock. http://www.poodwaddle.com/clocks/worldclock/ I would like to have something similar with live data collection from all the websites and organisations and individuals who wish to share their activities in the field. So we all could see what is going on. And if we combined that with easily navigatable database of all organisations and websites we might be able to make it easier for people to get involved and contribute. ![]() _________________ "SCREW THE RULES, WE HAVE MONEY!" http://www.freespaceships.com |

I highly doubt that that world clock that you link to actually tracks the data as it happens. It gets inputted the reported rate of increase of a piece of data (population, deficit) and has the number increase by that rate, regularly. Telethons generally work somewhat like this - the amount of money collected keeps on increasing, and then when they hit a million dollars, everyone goes wild. It was all planned before hand, of course.
That doesn't mean that the clocks are useless - it is a good visualization of the rate of increase of something. But you could get exactly the same data by looking at a single number. That would be boring, however. _________________ “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” -Anonymous |

Yes I assumed they wouldn't have live data feed from all the oil wells, logging operations, hospitals, cemetaries etc.
![]() My point was that I personaly find it entertaining, but also think it would be useful in case of a crowd managed program. It puts the figures right in front of people so it's harder to ignore the facts. It also helps to find solutions to problems anda monitor the efficiency of the solutions. Heck it is essential to finding problems that need solving. Overall solving any complex problem needs good information gathering and database to allow for the design of smart solutions that actually work. _________________ "SCREW THE RULES, WE HAVE MONEY!" http://www.freespaceships.com |
