Another one down! (1) SpaceX are awesome!
I thought most of the images were pretty good. The limiting factor is probably the downlink from the ISS, and in case of the camera at the end of the robotic arm the fact that it's probably catching quite a bit of radiation out there. Then there's the harsh lighting, think of the Armadillo Aerospace ballute picture, that looked funny as well. I loved his "That was a good simulation, we're ready to turn around and do it for real now!" quote as well. I was a bit surprised, he seemed a bit grumpy yesterday when he was calibrating the cameras, I thought André was the more cheerful one of the two, but apparently Don has a sense of humour as well. Good stuff! (1) Strictly speaking, for the third option to fall it'll still have to be berthed, but that's the easy part. _________________ Say, can you feel the thunder in the air? Four down! It's all up to re-entry now. Go, PICA-X!

I'm not really worried about PICA-X, that stuff has worked amazing on the last flight. I think the two critical items for re-entry are:
1) GNC bay door needs to be properly closed 2) Separation of the trunk has to work as intended. A failure in either of those tasks would likely doom Dragon to a fiery death ![]() _________________ pride comes before a fall |

Yep, it's down safely! One and a half option left, but it seems to be floating around happily, so fishing it out of the ocean shouldn't be much of a problem. If they do that, the mission's a complete success. Pretty amazing.
What's also amazing is that there's a space craft coming down on the other side of the world, and there's an aeroplane with a long-range infrared camera filming it, and that signal is then sent up to a satellite, down again somewhere in the US, multiplexed with other relevant signals, patched into the Internet, and transmitted through a transatlantic cable to my living room, where I can see the whole thing live on my computer screen. Who needs flying cars? This is the 21st century right there ![]() I loved the reaction of the astronauts on the ISS. Calling up Houston "It should be down by now, right? Is it there yet?" and when told that it was still coming down "Are the chutes open yet?". They were quite anxious to be kept up to date, too. _________________ Say, can you feel the thunder in the air?
