Quite a rant Monroe!
The problem you have is that the tech you espouse has not yet been tested successfully - whereas rockets are tested, and work, and are currently the only means to get satellites in to space. That's why people use them. They are the only option. That's why all the money goes there. I'm not saying you approach is wrong or won't work - just trying to say that there is a reason why rockets are used AT THE MOMENT. You can't blame the people with the money for sticking with them as they are a tried and tested technology. They are not idiots - they just don't want their money to be wasted. |

Fair enough BUT it has to be obvious we wont be using rockets in the future and it would be wise to invest in the real future. It can happen NOW if the right people are funded. Tell you what though I'll do my best on my own for now and we will see just how far off it is. K

Forgive my ignorance if I am wrong...
Isn't the purpose behind the sabre engine being researched by Reaction Engines Ltd. similar to what is trying to be accomplished in this thread? Why not just build a scramjet with rocket components? Neither are technically feasible at the moment, but I think the scramjet would be a little more realistic. |

K Monroe But how will the investors, who are generally quite a careful bunch, know who are the right people? It's a sad fact that no-one knows what will be a good and effective replacement for rockets, so no-one knows where to invest. And why is it obvious we won't be using rockets? We have unlimited supplies of 02 and H2. You can use alcohol which can be biologically produced, so not reliant on fossil fuels. It may turn out that rockets are in fact the BEST way to reach space. I doubt it, but could happen. |

It's up to us 'alternative to rockets' folks to prove our case. There is only one way to do that. Build it, fly it to space.
