Ah, but did they........
If a pencil breaks, you get a nasty bit of conductive graphite moving around in a weightless environment, ready to get stuck in vital pieces of electrical equipment. |

also, you have to watch out for pencil shavings. Although I guess you could design a pencil sharpener that captures them . . .

Quite Funny, and you can actually buy that thing:
http://www.npw.co.uk/product/W2201/Russian-Space-Pencil However it isn't exactly a true story: http://www.snopes.com/business/genius/spacepen.asp PS: what does "Snerk" mean? (edit: never mind, looked it up on urban dictionary) _________________ pride comes before a fall |

The Urban legend might not be true but many moons ago i had a fisher Tri space pen black, red and pencil unfortunately lost now but it gave me hours of fun watching people who had "borrowed" it try to figure out how to switch between the colours at the University i was working at at the time as it had only one button that pushed selected option in and out.
. . . . . . The mechanism to select the colour on my fancy space pen was a simple gravity feed. _________________ Someone has to tilt at windmills. So that we know what to do when the real giants come!!!! |

The British don't know how to spell.

UK English is English, because England is there lol.
"There is no such thing as "US English". We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u'." Taken From: http://www.jokesaboutamericans.com/amer ... _four.html Interestingly though, has anyone here outside the UK learnt English at school? If so, do you learn English or American? I obviously don't know as born in the UK. Quite interested though! _________________ > http://www.fullmoonclothing.com > http://www.facebook.com/robsastrophotography > robgoldsmith@hotmail.co.uk |

Austria -> theoretically we learn UK English (although I don't know if it is formally specified in any way), but good teachers will usually point out differences in spelling between UK and US English

I don't care what the language is called, the British can't spell.

Quite interested though! In Norway we learn English, but we can use simplified spelling as well (read it as "US English")However, you couldn't freely switch between the two. |

SuperShuki wrote: I don't care what the language is called, the British can't spell. Rather a rash statement considering we invented the language. Well, when I say invented, more of a collation from a number of other languages really, but I guess it's called English for a reason. Also rather rash to paint the whole population with the same brush. I can, for example, spell in both the UK and US variants of English (Although I choose not to use the second even though I work for an American company). I am British by the way. |
