So I was wondering your thoughts on this launch system. It uses the Virgin Galactic principal of bringing your vehicle up to a high altitude, then launching from there. Well, my idea is similar but different. What if you built a small but powerful multi-stage solid fuel booster rocket, and sent it up on a weather balloon? Now the other problem is the rocket not pointing in the correct direction, well this is where you pray that the delay isn't too horrible because it's obviously going to spin, and you could just launch right when it's pointing in the correct direction. The launch platform would be bottom heavy and built around the rocket itself, so that it's balanced and at the right angle, (up and down), for launch. Now the question is, does it work?

There are quite a number of people/teams working with that idea.

Well now I know I'm not some insane weirdo! Haha! I've considered it but didn't think it was real or in use since a balloon in winds might not be super stable...

Yeah. I don't know about the N-Prize, but I am going to be building a multi stage rocket with my future planning club. I wanted to launch that off of it. But it's going to be quite heavy.

Not an insane weirdo, but might be worth doing some Googling on your ideas to find out prior investigations - could save you a lot of time!
