While watching the movie Apollo 13 about 75% into the flight they activate the tower jet and it rockets away from the spacecraft does that contain the amergency parachutes? I'am still trying to figure this out.

What I mean is on the last stage from liftoff the astronaut says tower jet and the nose off the spacecraft rockets away.

Its the Abort stage. Through most of the ascent it has the ability to pull the command capsule away from the rest of the rocket.
Towards the end of the ascent it is jettisoned to save weight. Esacpe Tower Jettison... 'Tower Jet' _________________ What goes up better doggone well stay up! - Morgan Gravitronics, Company Slogan. |
