Post Popularizing Space (Tounge-in-cheek)   Posted on: Sat Jun 19, 2004 6:32 pm
I thought about posting this in another forum but since this has a higher 'humor' factor, I decided to do it here... Please, if you are offended by 'blue' humor, read no further...

What do people want? I'll tell you... sex and money and immediate gratification. Want proof? Look how much money is spent in casinos and other gambling ventures. On-line porn is a multi-billion USD industry! Combine sex with gambling and you have 80% of the population's attention. Now, throw in space and we have a real money maker (pardon the pun). What are the laws regarding porn and 'the oldest known profession' in space?

People regularly blow $10,000 in Vegas. Why not sell them tickets to topless casinoes in the sky? Combine forces with one of the brothels in Nevada and create what could be called the 'orbital club.' Perhaps we are all thinking too scientifically here. Let's treat space like the Wild West with brothels and gunfights and cattle rustlers and bank robbers. Create an aura of amazement around the entire thing. Glamorize it.

Think of space-sex as the next porn niche. You just have to wonder what it would be like to view a member of the opposite sex, scantily clad, in zero-G.

I propose we build an orbiting casino, complete with lounges and popular entertainers and BIG paybacks. What we need to do, to popularize space is appeal the lowest common denominators of society... sex and money.

Just for fun... No flames, please

For sure, space lottery, porn movies in space etc. will be a big player in the commercialisation of space.
I’m a paying member of X-prize and Planetary Society, but I’m also very interested in space, to get money out of the general public to start the space era, we need to use things that interest them…
And yes that could be lottery, porn etc.

oh, i'm sure for the fairly wealthy, space stations will be the next fad in honeymooning when they become commercially available. screw (yes pun intended) LOOKING in zero gee, just do it. space will probably have about as many major conservatives to try and stop it involved as there are at a scooter concert, excluding govt of course.

hehehe "Moonraker" Wasn't that the one with that big guy with steel teeth? I personally like the "Austin Powers" movies where 'Dr. Evil' flys around in a rocket propelled "Big Boy." Now that's real rocketry!!! Anybody have a spare "Big Boy" lying around?

Have any of you folks been to a High Powered Rocketry (HPR) flight? Man, some of those guys can be crazy! I had the honor of watching several larger (I & J) motors heaft bowling balls into the sky. Even saw a couple of frozen turkeys take flight under the power of burning Ammonium Perchlorate.

I even got to meet the real "RocketMan", Ky Michaelson. He launched one of his 'high profile' promotional rockets for "Ripley's Believe It Or Not". He was a little bit of a jerk... maybe it was the desert heat or dehydration. He wanted to launch the rocket himself but the Launch Control Officer (LCO) and Range Safety Officer (RSO) would not let him. The machine was already setup so he let them launch it and then, after the launch was completely finished for the day, the video crew made a taping of him faking the button push. It was kind of commical, really. Heaven forbid he portray how hobby rocketry operations really work. When I saw it on TV, I just laughed...

Weightless swimming pools (wet rooms?)
Listen up ladies, no need for wonderbra's anymore, gravity can't touch them up here. (Are Wonderbra's are called that because when you take them off, you wonder where they went?)

Another way to get some interest, might be to create a tax haven up there.
