If you want a good source on the problems/rewards of using H2O2, then read Paul Breed's Unreasonable Rocket blog. http://unreasonablerocket.blogspot.com/ He had problems with catalysts, then with sourcing and has since built his own purification system. Then had problems with sourcing the bulk peroxide for purification.
Maybe most of the problems are related to being in the US, but certainly required reading if you are going that path. _________________ MIsterQED Team Daedalus |

I just emailed both kiwi teams I think - if there are any other kiwi teams working on this fire me an email bnolan@gmail.com. I've done IMU-on-atmel-avr r&d and have milled a cooled kero/lox motor on my home lathe from aluminum. (Based on the specs and ideas from http://watzlavick.com/robert/rocket/).
I think this prize is unachievable and daft, but here's my contribution to the first stage: Lox/kero first stage. Unpressurised al tanks (so 300psi for lox, 0 for kero), automotive turbocharger impeller combined to a custom dual compressor for lox and kero operation, solid fuel pump starter, fuel-rich mini-chamber for ongoing operation. Rate gyro + accelerometer integrated 3-axis IMU controlling graphite vanes. I'll get us to 30km up, you work out the second stage. I still think it's impossible, but good for a laugh. |
