I posted a few more videos to the blog, in an attempt to have actually posted something, and maybe get us posting regularly again:

Thanks for keeping us updated Ben!
One little thing: Is it just me imaging things, or is the audio not in sync with the video on the two engine fire? Anyway, great videos! Can't wait to see a complete four engine fire! ![]() _________________ pride comes before a fall |

Yeah, it's a very cheap HD camera, so that I can put it close to (or on) the vehicle without worrying too much about it getting destroyed.
Either the camera or Quicktime loses sync and most of the videos end up like that, unfortunately. If I was using better software I could fix it, but for now it's not really worth the bother. |

Yesterday for the first time we test fired our new 750lbf regen lox/ipa engine. Fire time was about five seconds, and we got good data on the test. The engine was waiting for us to finish rebuilding our integrated horizontal test stand system, which we creatively call "the test trailer". It's working well. We have a couple more engines already in the pipeline.
Real time video, in HD, and you can see the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUgCAzIYeUs&fmt=22 High speed, the purge gas causes some minor harmless oscillation at engine shutdown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyZgnO7iAVk |

Thanks again for sharing!
Am I the only one who instantly has to think about Spaceballs when looking at "the test trailer"? ![]() ![]() _________________ pride comes before a fall |

It is an unusual look for a rocket test stand. I've been thinking of cooking hotdogs with rockets and then selling them out the window.
They originally got it because they were testing near the bay area, and it rained all the time. Now we're in the desert so our next test stand will be open. Here's firing #2 close up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhwsFHjEwZU&fmt=22 The audio sync is really bad. We fired it a third time on Friday, and we'll be doing it again tomorrow. |

Ben
I'll have 2 of thoes dogs! With mustard and some SWEET relish. Great work! I find the oscillation's very interesting. I wonder what causes that? Sonic vibration harmonics maybe? Monroe _________________ Today's the day! We go into Space! |

Nice vids Ben, good to see the 750lbf engine going!!!
Question, are all Mastens engines past and future lox/IPA? Just interested since you guys are developing that new 2500lbf engine.. Iain |

Just interested since you guys are developing that new 2500lbf engine.. Well, for now we're sticking with LOX/IPA because it gives such a nice balance of cost/performance/convenience. That said, we've been thinking about other options--it's just for what we're doing, unless we have a customer who wants us to investigate it, LOX/IPA works fine for what we're trying to achieve. ~Jon |
