Flightglobal (http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2008/09/30/316547/virgin-galactics-whiteknighttwo-first-flight-delayed-to-years-end.html) reports that the first flight of WhiteKnightTwo is possibly delayed to year's end.
Quote: "There have been various taxi trials outside the hangar already, but undertaken at night. The first flight trials will take place when we are ready and will definitely be this year and possibly within the next few weeks," says Will Whitehorn, the suborbital spaceline's president. _________________ "The hardest hurdle to space isn't the technicalities and money. They were out taxiing a bunch yesterday (Aleta Jackson att XCOR said "Very distracting, White Knight Two keeps taxing past the hangar.") but it's been snowing all day today, and they're definitely not going to fly in this weather.

About two inches so far. Not a lot compared to where I grew up, but more than all of last winter here.
Mojave is one the edge of the Mojave Desert, and some times the weather does make it all the way over the Sierras. It's a good thing that they flew the shuttle out when they did. I have some photos of our rocket vehicle with snow caked on it, I'll post them to the blog some time. |
