Okay, time for something a little less serious
It's 2010, and you're inside a clear acrylic bubble sat atop a rocket ready to push you into suborbital space. What will be the soundtrack to your adventure? To make it a bit more interesting, you get to pick exactly four songs for the trip: one for your ascent into the heavens, one for floating high above the planet, one for coming back down to Earth, and one for the people staying behind on terra firma. I've spent more time thinking of the above than thinking of the below, so I'm going to change my mind, but I have to kick this off somehow Ascent: Machinae Supremacy - Earthbound Coasting: David Bowie - Space Oddity Descent: The Smashing Pumpkins - Take me Down Earthlings: Metallica - Hero of the Day |

Lourens-
The trip to the launch (are you nervous?) Stevie Ray Vaughan - Tightrope, Superstition Ascent: Where can I hear a clip of Quote: Machinae Supremacy - Earthbound I'm thinking more like Van Halen - Eruption, Runnin' with the Devil, Everybody Wants Some!! Steve Vai - Final Guitar Solo, Erotic Nightmares, Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Chile Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien, Satch Boogie Coasting: Space Oddity, of course!!!! Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly? Blues Traveler - Alone Guns 'n' Roses - Knockin' on Heavens Door Santana - Eurpoa(Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile) Stevie Ray Vaughan - Little Wing The Verve - Star Sail Spitilualized - Sway Fuxa - Rainy Day Dream Away, Overture 1 Descent: Take me Down - Yawwn! Hero of the Day - Maybe the Lunar Flux version for descent... Or Billy Idol - Catch my Fall or Blue Highway Blues Traveler - Crash Burn or Decision of the Skies Earthlings: Sorry, not a Metallica fan... So, depending on your mood (gald to be back, sad it's over, spritual awaking on the fragile nature of earth...) Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life by the Drop, The Sky is Cryin' Bruce Cockburn - If A Tree Falls, Ribbon Of Darkness, Somebody Touch Me, Last Night Of The World Edvard Grieg - Resting in the Peaceful Forest, 'Morning' from 'Peer Gynt Suite' TerraMrs- Echoes? only if the coast is more than 20 minutes... |

If you don't like Metallica then Machinae Supremacy is probably not for you either. They used to have a nice web site, but now they only have a MySpace page, which that link will redirect to. Since MySpace doesn't do much without Flash, and I don't like proprietary software, I can't tell you if it's still up there. It should be though; it was one of the songs that was released for free on the web in their early days. That section was called "webography" on the old site. So for those that do like metal, have a listen (and check their newer stuff as well, Earthbound isn't their best song).

The contrast of sparse sound and rocket engine is too perfect. And coming down, the transition from the end of echoes into fearless (for the landing) is far too epic to pass up. _________________ Cornell 2010- Applied and Engineering Physics Software Developer Also, check out my fractals |
