True zero has a whole list of firsts that they will have to accpmplish at the challenge. I'm beginning to think it may be a good idea for this one to be closed to the public. I admit to have only glanced through the posts with video, but I don't remember reading too much about their safety systems. I would assume that the FAA will not grant permission to fly without a fairly robust safety provision in place.
I would, of course, be willing to sacrifice and go as the member of the public prepared to risk it all and report back to all of you how things went. _________________ Marc Hopkins Orange, CA |

Unfortunately, their safety system requires battery power to operate. While it's possible to make a very reliable powered safety system, I vastly prefer something that will automatically safe itself if power is lost or the control system is damaged.

Thanks for the pics. I am still amazed at what little media attention this event is receiving. I am stuck seeing/reading a ton of political spin stories, but I have the hardest time finding new information on the challenge.

The X Prize Foundation doesn't really get anything out of publicizing it this time, unlike the times when it was part of their X Prize Cup. If they weren't contractually required to hold the contest, I doubt it would have been held at all.

A Login page is only needed for the chat room portion.
Also, a short summary of the events so far: TZ crashed on their flight earlier. AA's morning flights ran into a slight delay and the FAA forced them to stop just before their return-leg (to reopen the airport to air traffic). AA just tried again and appears to have won Level 1!! They're packing the vehicle back up and returning it to the staging area now (need to do so inside of 30 minutes to win). w00t! --Noel |
