What sort of specific trade-offs between costs and safety and how can the necessity of these trades be communicated to the public? I understand that individuals are willing to accept risks for themselves beyond what seems society will allow them to take. For private spaceflight how can we allow society in general allow for individuals to take greater risks? How can a discussion of risk management unfold so the average "joe on the street" will accept or at least tolerate deaths during private spaceflight activities? How can we get the general society to again understand the nobility of self sacrifice for the future of mankind?
