very cool, so they should be flying the new small vehicle on saturday, and testing the big vehicle too. hopefully this means the big vehicle will be ready for major powered flights pretty soon.

The landings certainly were a bit on the rough side, something I'm sure they'll fix before flying the 850 gallon tank vehicle. I also really like seeing three different views of the same flight.
*Edit: Looking at the video again and I wonder if concern about that 15 second burn time limit possibly contributed to that rough landing. It seems that if it had boosted back up it might have recovered and straightened itself out. |

Maybe, maybe not ... but it seems more likely that as attitude control was being lost then further boosting was likely to give increasingly unpredictable results. In all probability, given a rapid progression of hardware/software interface difficulties at the end of the flight profile (i.e. a growing failure to correct attitude), the damage to the vehicle could have been greater with an attempted recovery. For the short term we can be sure that they did the right thing and played the percentages. Besides its better to find out what went wrong and fix that, rather than trust to a capture mechanism. Particularly with something as fundamentally important as achieving a safe landing. |

I meant a capture mechanism in the sense that you follow an unplanned reactionary procedure as an immediate response to an emergency situation, like reboosting in an attempt to regain attitude control.
