sorry, but, I (don't only) think that the Ares-1 is a bad designed rocket (that can't fly) but (also) that it could become VERY dangerous if a manned or test launch abort occurs that since and SRB-5 (without the ejected Orion and the broken 2nd stage) could reach (and fall on) the cities around KSC, as explained in this ghostNASA article: http://www.ghostnasa.com/posts/021chillinglaunch.html . _________________ . Its less dangerous than an Airliner flying over head. They drop out of the sky all the time.

I agree than a solid fuel first stage is more dangerous than liquid fuel or even hybrid, because it cannot be shut down once ignighted. But each shuttle launch has two opportunities to drop an SRB on someone's head, as will Ares 5. But Ares 1 only has one chance to do that.

The SRB never goes too fast, can self destruct and has parachutes.
The is very little that will make it to the ground. Giant chunks of the shuttle rained down and failed to injure anyone. The only big chunk in the SRB is the Nozzle. _________________ What goes up better doggone well stay up! - Morgan Gravitronics, Company Slogan. |
