Yep. No comment except that for that it's a bit of fun for the uninformed, younger portion of the population. The robot was cute and had all the best lines.

Suggestions? Suggestion: 3) The Right Stuff Glorious 1983 classic about the Mercury programme. Sam Shepard as Chuck Yeager is a hit. Bit shmalzy for my taste in the scenes at Grissom's home, but otherwise great. Dudes...
The Fifth Element. That is right up there with Galaxy Quest and its a space movie. Space Camp: Oddly enough this movie is probably one of the reasons I am into this alt.space stuff. I saw it when I was about six or seven. However the movie wasn't the big deal, at the time I was launching my first (estes) rockets with my father and brother. My father was a professional camera-dude at the time and filmed us launching and retrieving this launch. He then edited together with the footage from inside the 'shuttle' and flight control from the movie space camp and replaced all the external footage with shots of our rocket and spliced it all into a minute or so clip. Twas enough to blur the 'Nasa is for other people' idea in my young brain. Having the concept of people being launched in a rocket I had built... yeah that will mess you up _________________ What goes up better doggone well stay up! - Morgan Gravitronics, Company Slogan. |

How about "Dark Star".
"don't give me any of that inteligent life crap. Find me something I can blow up." I like the theme song too. http://www.benzedrine.cx/darkstar.html |

For number 11, I'd have to nominate Mystery Science Theatre 3000 - although it was more of a program than a movie..... Wait, you could Mystery Science Theatre 3000 - The Movie!

Oh, what about your eponymous film, Steven? Anyone here seen "Space Cowboys?"
Clint Eastwood practices landing stalls in the Shuttle on final... Tommy Lee Jones flies a cluster of nuke missiles (still attached to the orbital launch platform) to the moon and lives to walk around on it? There was a film with Dennis Hopper called "Space Truckers" that looked like it was probably over-the-top silly, but I never saw more than a short glimpse between channel-surfing stops... |

The shot from the end of Space Cowboys was stolen from a short story by Heinlein, an epilogue to The Man Who Sold The Moon. But that's beside the point.
I never did see Space Truckers, although it might be mildly amusing (just not enough to make it worth the $4.29 that Blockbuster charges). For a long time, a lot of people thought I got my name from Cowboy Bebop (They stopped when I began to run out of places to hide the bodies). It doesn't actually come from either film. It's just me. _________________ American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering In Memoriam... Apollo I - Soyuz I - Soyuz XI - STS-51L - STS-107 |

Hello, I am new here and I could not help but notice this thread and the movies that have not been mentioned
Now for one I do not know if you mean space only, or with space scenes. for this particular post I am going to consider space scenes. these are in no particular order. Coneheads Howard the Duck Men in Black Mars Attacks The Adventure of Pluto Nash Spaced Invaders!(CANNOT BELIEVE THIS WAS NOT MENTIONED!!!) and Men in Black 2 I suppose. |

You should include "Starship Troopers" into the list as well imho.
It doesn't take itself too "serious" and there were so many logical faults in it, you just can't stop laughing while watching. (Like starships flying in tight formation so that if one ship gets blown up it takes out at least two others... The latest Star Trek (with the young crew fresh out of the academy in an altered reality) was also pretty hilarious imho. But yeah, I agree that nothing can beat "Jam their Radar" Spaceballs. hehe _________________ pride comes before a fall |
