Post Tools etc. for calculations of Economics   Posted on: Fri Aug 11, 2006 11:33 am
Here I will list the Excel-spreadsheets available and under work which enable you to do calculations yourself I have done or will do in threads of this sections.

Simply insert the numbers you want to use.

At present I am working on an Excel-spreadsheet for the Lunar Siyuz-thread.

There will be examples also - using the numbers I applied.

The spreadsheets will be added later by EDIT.

EDIT:

Tools and spreadsheets available:

enhanced break-even-point-analysis for suborbital Virgin Galactic-like companies and concepts:

Virgin Galactic break-even-analysis and -acceleration

Initial Virgin Galactic break-even-point-analysis including examples:

break-even-points, profits

Until then--here is a reminder of how we must be suspect of figures...

LOGIC, n. The art of thinking and reasoning in strict accordance with the limitations and incapacities of the human misunderstanding. The basic of logic is the syllogism, consisting of a major and a minor premise and a conclusion -- thus:

Major Premise: Sixty men can do a piece of work sixty times as quickly as one man.

Minor Premise: One man can dig a posthole in sixty seconds;

therefore --

Conclusion: Sixty men can dig a posthole in one second. This may be called the syllogism arithmetical, in which, by combining logic and mathematics, we obtain a double certainty and are twice blessed.

I have added the two tools used in the Accumulations-thread into the initial post of this sticky - where all tools etc. will be added as time goes by.

The spreadsheet for the Lunar Siyuz-thread still is under construction but the functions/equations describing and doing the way of calculation(s) are ready in between.

Since the tool first is required during the checks required urgently the equations and the way to get them first will be listed and described in that thread and the spreadsheet also will be made available in that thread first.

But later it will be added to the initial post of this thread also.

Thank you for your work Ekkehard.

True, but you have to start some where. And cynically, from an economic/business perspective, as often as not some number, even if it has no bearing on reality, is better and more useful than no numbers at all.

Have you considered writing an article about the subject? I think it is a good idea:) will fit good in the scope of the International Journal of Space Technology Management and Innovation (IJSTMI)journal:)

Welcome to the board! You don't happen to be the Stella Tkatchova who is editor-in-chief of that journal, do you? If so, it would have been nice to mention that, just to make it clear.

To everyone else who now considers writing something for IJSTMI, note that this is a closed academic journal. For those of you unfamiliar with the academic world, this means that you write the paper and submit it to the journal. The publisher will then send it to a bunch of reviewers, who will give comments, which you then use to improve the paper, and, if the whole thing is accepted by the reviewers and the editor, a final version is published. Neither you, nor the reviewers will be paid (editors are typically paid a small salary), and you will have to sign over all your rights in the paper to the publisher, meaning you can then not distribute it yourself anymore. Anyone wanting to read it will have to get a $200/year subscription to the journal from said publisher.

For those of you wondering what kind of scam we have fallen victim to this time, this is standard practice in the academic world, this journal is in no way exceptional, and editors aren't paid per article so Stella (if she is indeed the editor) is just being helpful and certainly not doing anything wrong here. If you're an academic, your performance is judged on publications, so you're stuck with it. If you're not an academic, just starting a blog is probably a better deal than publishing in an academic journal, unless it's an Open Access one. (And if you're an academic, you should also publish Open Access whenever possible. Disclaimer: I'm about to violate that principle...)
