The german SuW-News (SuW = "Sterne und Weltraum" have been talking about it on 10th of January 2006. They provided a list of links including www.arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0601022 which seems to be a paper written by two scientists.
Obviously the red particles making the rain red aren't desert dust grains but a cell-like - they look like biological cells. But they don't contain no DNA. Majorly they are made of carbon and oxygen. According the scientists' paper there is an investigation or analysis if it could have to do with a space rock passing the region a few hours before the Red Rain with a supersonic boom. The NewScientist did an article on this too. I'm not convinced of peoples extra terrestrial theories though.
