Okay, so what's your favorite space music? And yes, Holst, Goldsmith, and Williams are allowed.

I have to agree, this IS good music.. and I find it sometimes even funny ![]() Personally, "Faith of the heart", The Enterprise theme by Russel Watson (extended version) is also nice ![]() _________________ Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible. - Lord Kelvin, 1892 |

Good stuff. I might even have to buy that CD.
I also like a lot of the new age sort of spacey space music. And I really like the theme music from the HBO program "From the Earth to the Moon". Especially the closing theme. At least I think it is the closing theme. The one that is also played when the Apollo 8 astronauts first see the Earth rising over the Moon. |

John Williams and Gustav Holst both get my votes. I concur with Pete as well. Also, there is Debussy (Claire de Lune), how about David Bowie (you know), Rush (Countdown, Cygnus X1), The Police (Walking on the Moon)... so very much to choose from!

Styx -- Come Sail Away
Jimmy Buffett & Martina McBride -- Trip Around the Sun (good song in general) How about the stuff from Apollo XIII? That's pretty good music, right there. _________________ American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering In Memoriam... Brave Saint Saturn/Five Iron Frenzy have some pretty good ones: "Space Robot Five" "2-29" (opens with clips from the audio feed from the Challenger flight, very haunting song), "Moon Burns Bright", "Farsighted", and to a lesser extent "Cannonball".
But I think Williams has everyone else, hands down. Of course, you couldn't possibly tell from my username ;-D |

Let's not forget "On The Beautiful Blue Danube" which became space music with the movie 2001, a space odyssey.

David Bowie - Space Oddity for me.
I can imagine a dwarf listening to that on his/her way to mars in a suprisingly cheap spacecraft... (yep, j/j) |

A good portion of Pink Floyd's material works for me.

I listen to a lot of space-related music. One of my favorite bands is called Hawkwind, who were somewhat popular back in the seventies and were known primarily as a "space-rock" band. As such, they did a lot of concept albums which were usually based on some kind of space opera. One of my favorite songs of theirs is called "Time We Left this World Today" from the album "Doremi Fasol Latido" in 1972. Kind of obvious from the title; dirgey, doom-and-gloom, early 70's space advocate kind of song.
![]() I also like the song "Into the Void" by Black Sabbath, Master of Reality, 1971. Another one that illustrates really well the "doom-and-gloom" mentality of some of us pro-space types. (Not that I like to encourage that kind of thinking- but it's entertaining sometimes.) I'm right now listening to the album "Angel's Egg (Radio Gnome Invisible Pt.2)" by Gong. They sang a lot about spaceships and other planets and such, but it was also rather silly, all being populated by pothead pixies and other fantastic types. Way-cool music, though. And of course, I'm also a big fan of The Greatest Band Ever to Exist in the History of Humanity Period, usually known as Jethro Tull. ![]() Anyhoo, I hope some of these recommendations are helpful. |
