I thought it was pretty common >>knowledge (at least among the aerospace/gaming industry) >>that Carmack was heading such a venture. Unless there were >>some new developments in that article, I'm not quite sure why >>that's considered news. It seems this person knows about it, but just doesn't follows it up... that much.. I guess he expects that the mass media will report it.. when something happens. >>coldacid Posted - 10 February 2004 1:39:43 PM >>Welcome to two years ago. Some personal opinions... I guess also a lot other people will look the same at space vehicles like he does to games.... some people may find a rocket terrible.. just because the color sucks and it smells... lol But for games... john carmack really used unique techniques for making games... same he's doing for space ![]() http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums ... _id=152435 >>bishop_pass Posted - 22 April 2003 2:51:26 PM >>Until orbit is achieved at low cost, everything else >>is just a gimmick, in my opinion. Its odd and sad.
One would think the X Prize would attrack the Whizz marketeers and not just the Whizz engineers. _________________ What goes up better doggone well stay up! - Morgan Gravitronics, Company Slogan. |

Yes it's odd and sad... but I guess it will change in the future, when most people see at least that IT IS POSSIBLE.. when it's a proven succes.. When that happens... we'll be just a few of the thousands of forum members... but we'll remember the real people who helped to get this here active ![]() _________________ Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible. - Lord Kelvin, 1892 |

In a brief email exhange I had with John, I found he really knows where he stands on the aerospace industry and with Armadillo's future. I found some of their testing techniques to be wanting in terms of sophistication and formal methodology, but hey, it's a whole new ball game now. I think there's a bright future for Carmack's company, although it may be moving slowly for the time being.
You are right, though; at some point this private space industry will hit critical mass and the media will be all over it. |
