I know 80 or 90 AU isn't going to get us closer to any star to make a differance but would being past the Ort cloud or outside the solar system give us a "clearer" picture of the universe? Would we see the same thing from a Lunar or orbiting telescope (or radio ...um scope) as we would from outside our solar system?

So yes there are advantages but i would suspect you would need very accurate atomic clocks on board to sync images as well as very accurate measurement of relative movement. _________________ Someone has to tilt at windmills. So that we know what to do when the real giants come!!!! |

The only real advantage is that you'd get clearer exposure to EM and cosmic-ray radiation. For all we know the solar wind shock front distorts the view the same way looking through a curved glass does. You would also have a greater parallax range for doing distance estimates.
