Hi all,
One of the articles on the recent flight of SS1 http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/xprize_postflight_040929.html mentioned that it includes a 'gold box' flight/data recorder. Does anyone have any information on these? ie: what is measured, who makes them... thanks. |

The weight of the gold box will count toward the ballast requirement, Diamandis said." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ansari_X_Prize "Altitudes achieved are measured by three separate systems. There is a "gold box" flight recorder carried on each competitive flight, and two separate radar systems. Official altitiudes are determined by a compromise between the three systems." Google has many matches along similar lines. |

As far as I was aware, it was just a custom built telemetry and video recorder supplied by the Xprize Foundation. The mount points were supposed to be specified, and all the teams had to make provision for fitting one.
