Slashdot has a post about an inflatable re-entry vehicle that will be flight tested.

The inflatable structure saves weight, which means more weight for payload.

A neat concept, albeit such a vehicle might present difficulties in patching a blowout at orbital speeds. One can't just pull off onto the margin and slap on the spare.
