That was precisely what I was asking for. Thanks. It certainly does make an important point. Dagnabit.
Ok, ok ... so I agree that its possible for EM communication foul-ups could precipitate a SNAFU that couldn't happen with a human holding the screwdriver. As far as the suit is concerned I'll buy that all it will take is n years of technological advancement. Where n = any number you care to think of. DKH _________________ Per aspera ad astra |

There has been an article about spacesuits at Space.Com one day this year. It is very interesting and considers four different designs.
As far as I remember one similar to that you described here is included. Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |

Of course, Dr. Keith -- I left out the part that both of those incidents were apparently in GEO... Not sure how it'd affect construction work (which would more likely be done in LEO and the final structure pushed up to the desired orbit).

Urgh, a triple-post. But here's a whole slew of links for the mechanical-counterpressure suits:
A Space.com image An MIT project A tech paper abstract A PopSci article The first Wikipedia article The second Wikipedia article A CNN article Of course, I don't mind at all if we get her to design them... _________________ American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering In Memoriam...
