Hey everyone,
Some fellow space enthusiast students need some support! They are building a satellite to test a self-healing material to protect future spacecraft from micro-meteorites. They are almost at their goal, however, they only have a few days of fundraising left. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/981 ... -satellite Perhaps you can help spread the word, or contribute whatever you can, or direct us to a good resource? Thank you, your support is appreciated ![]() |

What about using a laser to induce a plasma bloom on the surface of the micrometeor, right before impact, and then repel the plasma with a burst of EMF?
(All theoretical at this point) but it could halt the micrometeoroid in it's tracks, or shatter it, or at least slow it down and soften it. _________________ Let not the bindings of society hold you back from improving it.... the masses follow where the bold explore. |

Very difficult to pull off technically due to the velocities and the coverage area (all angles) required.

Also you'd have to be able to track the micrometeoroid accurately and be able to generate enough power to power your laser and your deflector. I know you like lasers and plasma blooms, but I think their idea is a bit more practical
