So how is it supposed to be self-replicating?

Not self replicating, grown with lithography, or vapor deposition etc, then they are "painted" with a selection of adhesives, that have different properties,in key areas, then these are connected,

The devices would be complex, but very small, so no huge equipment, just many differing process to make many differing types,

I have no idea what I'm looking at?! Is that suppose to be a fully functional 3D printer. part of one, or an example of what you could print?

Also I don't like the title of this post, since I have spend a lot of time building a Reprap

Are you finding useful things to do with your reprap and is the new generation reliable? the last time i saw one in person it was one of Adrian's at Bath university on an open day and it was the old cube shape version i think they were just starting on the design of the type you seem to be using reckoning it would be more stable and accurate.

I love reprap
I want to make a direct recycling and also a micro-cube architecture for small modular component that add up to "printing" a smartphone

Read either Ben Bova's Voyagers, or Blood Music by Greg Bear, before designing stuff that dissolves things....!
