There have been threads about problems caused to potential Mars colonies by martian microbes and revers, closed loop systems linked to that problems and so on.
Now just this moment I detected that there is a NIAC study considering a topic of that kind: "Redesigning Living Organisms to Survive on Mars" ( www.niac.usra.edu/files/studies/abstracts/944Boss.pdf ). Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |

Besides the ink provided - I remember having read about redesigns of organisms to produce more of particular chemical than originally.
There are bacteria and microbes that produce chemicals protecting them against radiation. So the idea seems to be realistic. May be that symbiotic approaches are on interest or required. What about it? Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |
